About
Technical writer using AI while mindful of the environmental impact. This is not a "pro AI" site, and I do not think everyone should use it. Instead, my focus is more on responsible use if you want or need to use it, and helping non-technical people adjust their expectations of this technology to match reality.
Before creating this blog I had already composed many drafts on these topics, so I think this is a good summary of the types of things you'll find here:
- Operational upkeep of AI agents
- Realistic expectations surrounding AI usage
- How to calculate your AI environmental impact and ways to offset it
- Using AI for meal planning
- Using AI as an accessibility tool
- Amateur software/app development with AI
- Why AI doesn't replace people
- AI in knowledge management
- Writing with (or without) AI
- AI reactions (and why they are sometimes silly and sometimes not)
- AI therapy (don't)
- How to manage your data from the AI tools I have access to and therefore can show you that
- Make your AI usage manifesto
- Navigating AI's moral quandries when you have to use it for work
- The rise of computers vs the rise of AI (similarities and differences)
This is also in some ways a learning journal. I'm recording ideas and responses and writing to learn. I am not an expert, just someone working in a certain context that asks me to explore and learn something new.

AI transparency statement: I use AI to stress test my arguments and check tone because first drafts get snarky. From that I sometimes gain a "clearer way to phase something" that is more succinct and accurate. I am learning that sometimes it comes at the cost of tone and style. I am thinking about writing about that too.
I am a scholar at heart and work at a university so I try to use a mixture of articles, posts, and papers when I do my research. I don't like to just read summaries, but would rather read (or admittedly sometimes skim) the original studies. I hope there's a good mixture of accessible and academic articles for various audiences.
